We were called out to look at a garden which needed several trees removed in Darley Dale, near Matlock.  The homeowner knew of our services and had opted to contact Hands on Tree Care based on positive things he’d heard. Cherry Tree Cut Down when we arrived at the property there was an old Cherry tree on the boundary that was past it’s best, the owner told us that it had been dropping dead branches and he was concerned that one might fall on a passerby.  This tree was to be completely removed. Smaller Nuisance Trees Removed As well as the Goat willow, there were several other smaller trees that needed attending to.  Firstly, an Ash tree of about 20 years old. This also needed removing, along with a small Stag Tree.  These trees were unwanted and had grown up like weeds when the property was under previous ownership.  Other examples […]

Trees Pollarded – Student Property in Broomhall

Pollarding Lime Trees in Sheffield

Hands on Tree Care were called out to look at some trees that needed pollarding at Sheffield student properties Broomhall Area S10.  This was a large job requiring an application to prune trees in the conservation area. We had to liaise with Sheffield City Council, as the process of application and permission usually takes 6 weeks. Hands on Tree Care held a site meeting held with council’s tree officer to address concerns of the local residents’ committee. Permission to Get Trees Pollarded Permission was granted to get the trees pollarded as well as cutting a Sycamore which bordered the complex of student accommodation. Pollarding the trees to previous growth points resulted in Lime Trees being reduced in height from approximately 70ft to 10ft. This had a dramatic effect in increasing the amount of light reaching the grounds and windows of the residents. A large Chestnut Tree also had to be removed on site, as […]

Spruce Tree Cut Down in Worksop

Spruce Tree Cut Down

Spruce Tree cut down in Worksop: Hands on Tree Care Hands on Tree Care  We were called out to dismantle a large Spruce tree in Worksop, due to its roots lifting the tarmac on the driveway. The Spruce tree was approximately 70ft tall and around 50 yrs old. As usual, when cutting down trees in a residential area we use a sectional dismantling technique. Sectional dismantling is the method of cutting down a tree in carefully managed sections. We climb the tree using a rope and harness and then dismantled in sections. This Spruce Tree took around 4 hours to fully dismantle and tidy away. After the spruce tree was cut down to a safe and manageable level, we then cut the trunk into smaller sections. Logs For The Customer Often when we have a single tree to fell, the customer will request that we provide some of the logs for their […]

Leylandii Trees Cut Down

Leylandii Trees Pruned or removed

Leylandii Trees Removed – Chesterfield, domestic residence Managing Leylandii Trees Hands on Tree Care can manage Leylandii, easily. Earlier this month we were called out to a house in Chesterfield. They had large trees that were touching the house.  One problem with having such a large tree close to your house is that they can potentially cause damage to the foundations and roof tiles.  In addition, such large trees can block light from your garden as well as drain nutrients from the soil, and provide a home for garden pests, such as squirrels, mice, rats and pigeons. We can cut down or prune overgrown evergreen trees. Large Leylandii Trees Can Shade Neighbouring Gardens Hands on tree Care dismantled the trees to ground level. We climb the tree cutting off sections of the main trunk and large bows as we go.  The trees were approximately 30ft in height. We cut the […]

Horse Chestnut Felled in Sheffield

cutting down a horse chestnut tree

Horse Chestnut Felled in Sheffield: Hands on Tree Care. The Horse Chestnut tree that we felled in Sheffield at the end of the summer was amongst one of the more enjoyable jobs of August 2017. The Horse Chestnut tree was showing signs of disease, and in the last year, had begun to drop sizeable limbs. Luckily these had fallen into the field and not onto the adjacent road. The landowner began their search for a reputable tree surgeon in Sheffield and gave Hands on Tree care a call. They had decided to have the old conker tree felled completely for safety reasons. Sadly it had given its last conkers to the local kids and now it was time to make it safe. The Conker tree was overhanging onto the public highway and footpath. Had a branch fallen from the tree onto a pedestrian or a passing car, someone might have […]

Conifers Removed in Chesterfield

Conifer Trees Removed

Conifers Hedge Removed in Chesterfield: Tony Hands 2017 Conifers Removed in Chesterfield 6x large Conifers in a Chesterfield garden become overgrown.  The trees were approximately 20years old.  They had grown to a height of 10m  with a  width 5m. The Conifer trees were beginning to dominate the space in the garden.  The customer requested the complete removal of the trees to achieve a lower maintenance garden and to create more natural light. Conifer hedges require annual light to moderate trimming in Spring to prevent hedges becoming out of hand.  Heavy pruning does not create a good aesthetic result as it exposes the inner leaves with are brown.   Unfortunately,  once become overgrown require removal Conifers also create acidic and dry soil, such soil makes it difficult to grow other plants in close proximity to the conifers.  This Acid soil also affects soil quality preventing healthy lawn growth. Ash Tree Removal – Nottingham

ash tree removal

Ash Tree Removal – Nottingham – Tony Hands August 2017 We were called out to quote for an Ash tree removal in Nottingham.   Upon examination, it was obvious to us that the Ash tree, which was situated in the back garden of the property was growing too close to outbuildings.  The roots of the Ash tree had started to affect the foundations of the buildings.  This had caused subsidence and damage to the roof tiles on the outhouse. In addition to the problem caused by the tree roots, the canopy had become overgrown and was blocking the light from the garden.  Too much shade caused by overhanging trees can reduce plant growth and encourage damp conditions, not to mention mossy lawns.   How Do You Remove An Ash Tree? Removing a Tree is a standard procedure for us here at Hands on Tree Care.  The Ash Tree was approximately 15meters tall and the customer requested […]

Ash Trees Felled For Improved Drainage

hands on tree care- trees felled in Sheffield

In early December of 2017, Hands on Tree Care were called to help a local farmer cut down Ash trees from an irrigation ditch at Barlow, Nr Dronfield, Derbyshire. Trees Felled Around Drainage Ditch His field was becoming waterlogged. The farmer needed to gain access to an overgrown and neglected drainage ditch. The access to the ditch had become choked up with small Ash trees. These trees had grown up in the years of neglect. Young Ash Trees felled to clear the drainage ditch We brought in the chainsaws and loppers and set to work removing the trees from around the ditch. This allowed sufficient access for the mini digger. The farmer then started clearing out the ditch.  This allows water to drain out of the fields into the ditch. This sort of tree felling is actually good for the environment. It’s part of an age-old pattern of sustainable land management, […]

Leaning Poplar Tree Felled Chesterfield

Poplar Tree Felled

Leaning Poplar Tree Felled Chesterfield. Do you need a Tree Felled in Chesterfield?  We were recently called out by a local farmer who needed a Poplar tree felled.  The Tree had developed a  lean toward a neighbouring property.  The neighbours had raised concerns about the safety of the tree due to dropped branches after windy weather. The landowner decided to get the tree felled because it had become too large for the location and posed risk of instability in high winds. We decided the safest way to get the tree felled was to rope up to the top of the tree and cut from the top using a method known as ‘sectional dismantling‘.   Logs From Your felled Tree When you get a tree felled by sectional dismantling, you can be sure that we are minimising the risk of danger to people and property below the tree. Large parts of the […]
