One of the main reasons we have to remove trees is when they are growing too close to buildings. When a tree begins to grow close to a building it can:

We were recently called out to look at this Conifer tree that was growing very close to patio doors. It had been planted as ornamental decoration in a border after an extension was added to the property. Over time the tree had been allowed to grow to a point where it was now much too big to be managed.

Because the tree was now too big to be pruned properly, the only sensible solution was to remove it. If the tree been managed throughout its life its size would have been restricted. Now though, It was blocking light from the conservatory, and we decided to cut it down and leave the root base in situ.
The client didn’t want any stump grinding or for us to dig the roots out. They wanted to minimise any potential damage to pavings and footings. Conifer species pose no risk of root regrowth, so It was decided to leave the stump.
As you can see removing the tree was the right decision. Now the property is not at risk of damage and benefits from more light.
