Hedge Reduction in Sheffield
On Tuesday, 15th June 2013 we were in Sheffield again. There was a 20ft long Hawthorn and Ash tree hedge that needed some serious pruning.
Cutting the Ash and Hawthorn Hedge
We were informed that the hedge had become overgrown and wild. We had inspected the site a few days earlier, so we knew exactly what tree cutting equipment would be needed to clear the hedge.
The hedge was overgrown needed to be reduced to allow more light along a length of a public footpath. Before we could start the work though, we needed to check for any nesting birds. Hands on Tree Care are a responsible Eco-Friendly company and we want to deliver the best service for our clients whilst taking good care of local wildlife too.
Long Term Hedge Care
Our first job was to cut the hedge to a manageable height. This allows the hedge to be maintained more easily by local volunteers with cutters. The Hedge will still require annual trimming once birds have finished nesting, usually by the summertime.
A healthy hedge of Thorn and Ash will always regrow even if cut heavily back. Once we had cut the hedge back to the necessary height, we collected up all the cut branches and put them into our chipper.

We left the chippings on site as they make for great weed suppressant and mulch for the trees. Hands on Tree Care always take care to ensure that we follow Health and Safety guidelines to ensure public safety whilst working. We erected the appropriate signage informing people of our work as well as cones placed across footpath to protect pedestrians.
