We were called to Sheffield to attend to a Yew Tree and a Cherry Tree, both of which needed their crowns reducing. Hands on Tree Care are experienced Tree surgeons and we have had plenty of experience at crown reductions.
The mature Yew tree (approx 150years old) had gotten much too tall for its surroundings. whereas the cherry tree was just too thick and bushy, that it was blocking out light from the garden.
Whilst these two trees may seem pretty straightforward, it isn’t always the case. A Planning application was required before any tree could be pruned because the trees were sited in a conservation area.
Conditions imposed specified they could be crown reduced by a maximum of 2 meters, even though both trees had been pruned in the past.

The work to reduce the cherry tree was a little more straightforward. for a start, the tree was a lot smaller and easier to prune. We just removed a number of boughs and branches to ensure that the light could more easily penetrate the canopy and get through to the ground below.
Why Tree Reductions?
Sometimes, it can seem that canopy work like this is harsh on the tree. However, you would be surprised at just how fast the trees recover and regain their normal look with new growth.
Without this sort of pruning work, trees can grow out of control and become dangerous. in a natural situation, trees drop their bows and smaller branches all the time. However, in a managed area such as kerbside or in gardens or business premises, this natural wastage cannot be allowed due to the potential risk to people and property. All works were completed in a day and the site was left tidy, as we found it.
