Conifer Hedge Pruning in Sheffield – Tony Hands

Hands on Tree Care were contacted by a customer in Bradway, Sheffield who needed a large and mature conifer hedge pruning.   Unfortunately, the hedge had been allowed to overgrow after not being maintained regularly.

The hedge had grown to be the size of full-size trees and these trees were restricting light in neighbouring gardens.

Keep High Hedges Manageable

We often see hedges that have been left to get out of control.  It’s very common where residents become elderly or sick, and their gardens become too much to manage on their own. Also, in periods where rented accommodation stands empty for a time, gardens and hedges become the last priority of landlords.

In this property, the situation was not ideal because the trees had already become large. We managed to reduce the height of the trees and then trimmed them to shape, still providing a privacy screen without being intrusive.  In an ideal situation, you would remove the trees, and replant a young hedge.  The customer has managed trees in his garden rather than smaller, more manageable hedge.

Problems of High Hedges

  • Overgrown hedges can become difficult to trim
  • Wild hedges require tall step ladders, and sometimes specialist gear to manage
  • Unkept hedges can result in fines from your local authority
  • Overgrown hedges can block light from yours or your neighbours’ property

All works completed in 1 day, limited access so branches needed to be carefully removed through conservatory and garage without mess or damage.
