Hands on Tree Care Provide an environmental tree service: Tony Hands
We are often asked what steps we take as a business to ensure that we are being as environmentally friendly as possible.
Obviously, the environment is very important to us, Tree management can often seem destructive but it is in fact a crucial part of managing the landscape and improving biodiversity.
Environmental Steps We Take In Our Tree Care
When it comes to our Chainsaws. We use vegetable-based oil to run them as it is less polluting compared to mineral oil, particularly with reference to domestic ponds/watercourses and vegetable plots.

Recycling Bio-materials

All our logs that come from our Tree Surgery work are processed, split and seasoned for firewood. All smaller branches are run through a shredder and the Clippings are repurposed as garden mulch in beds and borders. Perfect for weed suppression and the building of paths and soft play areas. Some customers like logs and branches to be left on-site to encourage wildlife habitats.
Replanting Schemes & Woodland Management
Hands on Tree Care do offer a replanting scheme when a tree has been removed under a Tree Preservation Order (TPO). It is often specified as a condition of the planning application.

Tree work aids the environment my controlling non-native species to prevent overcrowding. Thinning trees in woodland can help the health of surrounding trees as there is less competition for limited resources. In addition this thinning allows smaller plants to grow on the forest floor, which leads to more insects, and in turn increased biodiversity in terms of birds, mammals, reptiles and amphibians.
Removing dead and diseased timber from tree canopies improves the overall health and longevity of the tree, limiting the risk of ingress of pests and diseases.
