Oak Tree Thinned in Chesterfield – Hands on Tree Care.
Hands on Tree Care were recently called out to Chatsworth Rd in Chesterfield. The tree we were called to prune was a mature Oak (approx 150 years old and 30 meters high. The work required permission from the council as it was under a TPO / tree preservation order.
What is a Tree Preservation Order?
A Tree preservation order. … or TPO, is made by a local planning authority (usually the local council) to protect specific trees or a particular area, group of trees or woodland area from deliberate damage and destruction. TPOs are usually applied where it is deemed that those trees are important for the benefit of the local area.
We submitted a tree work application, made on the clients’ behalf. Once we got the go-ahead to commence pruning, work was carried out on the removal of deadwood and to carry out a maximum of 15-20% crown thinning.
Safety First
The Oak Tree was bordering a public highway. Therefore safety measures were especially important. When carrying out any kind of tree work. We always take precautions regarding falling branches and debris. We wanted to ensure that the area directly under and around the base of the tree was out of bounds to pedestrians and vehicles.
Signage and cones were laid out in conjunction with highways regulation to ensure the safety of pedestrians and passing vehicles. If the event of any damage occurring, which is highly unlikely because we always follow safety guidelines, customers can be assured that Hands on Tree Care are fully insured.
All tree work was carried out using ropes and harnesses, and the tree canopy was thinned within a day. We left the logs on-site at the customers’ request. Thinning the Crown in this manner allows more light down to the ground and into surrounding properties, it also removes the potentially dangerous dead wood, which might be a risk to people or property, should it fall.
